    Patrick enjoyed wide international distribution upon its original release. In Australia, it played in Richard Franklin's preferred 113-minute cut. However, in Italy, several scenes were trimmed and Brian May's arrangements were replaced with a score by prog-rock ensemble Goblin. The film was cut further still in America (with Franklin's assistance) and the actors were dubbed by domestic voice artists. For this disc's presentation of the US cut, the audio has been sourced from the best available materials, which suffer from some minor damage in the opening scenes. Please note that all the versions of the film contain flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

Murderer Patrick (Thompson) is kept in a comatose state between life and death, under the watchful eye of the eccentric Dr Roget (Helpmann). When he is assigned a caring new nurse, Kathy (Penhaligon), he becomes possessive, and uses telekinetic powers to torment anyone who comes between them.

Produced by Antony I Ginnane (Snapshot), written by Everett De Roche (Harlequin), and scored by Brian May (Mad Max), Patrick’s unprecedented international success made it a landmark of the Australian New Wave.
