"At script stage, The Escapees was known as Les Meurtrières ('The She-Killers'). It became Les Échappées during production. The completed film was sold to distributor Les Films Philippe Modica, who changed the title to Les Paumées du petit matin, re-ordered two scenes, cut another short, and added a brief shot of a seagull.
This version possibly had a limited, regional theatrical release in 1982, but received wider distribution on VHS in France in the 1980s. The film was first shown as Les Échappées on French television in the 2000s, and received its UK and US DVD premieres as The Escapees in 2009."
